Halal

From WikiAhmadiyya, the free encyclopedia on Islam and Ahmadiyyat

Halal or Halaal/Hallal means things which are 'permissible' in Islam. In reference to food, halal is similar to the Kosher food found in Judaism.

Animals slaughtered for halal meat can be pre-stunned to minimise pain and the vast majority of halal meat produced in countries such as the UK is pre-stunned. In fact, the prophet of Islam, Muhammadsa advocated for the rights of animals and insisted slaughter should be made as quick and painless as possible and that other animals should not be present so as to avoid their being traumatised by the killing:

The Messenger of Allahsa said: Allah said: "...when you slaughter, slaughter well. Let one of you sharpen his blade and spare suffering to the animal he slaughters."
