Female Genital Mutilation

From WikiAhmadiyya, the free encyclopedia on Islam and Ahmadiyyat

Female Genital Mutilation has no basis in Islam and is not mentioned or supported by the QuranThe Prophet of Islam, Muhammadsa, did not advocate Female Genital Mutilation in any authentic tradition and none of his four daughters were subjected to the practice.

However it is culturally practiced in some Asian and African countries by people of various religious backgrounds including Jews, Christians, Muslims, animists and others - in countries such as Niger Female Genital Mutilation is supported by 55% of Christians as compared to just 2% of local Muslims. The vast majority of the global Muslim population do not conduct Female Genital Mutilation and those who do are concentrated in certain countries where this is a common cultural practice, often predating the advent of Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has always actively prohibited and condemned Female Genital Mutilation.
