Islam (sometimes Islaamis a monotheistic religion based upon the Quran, a religious text considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God and by the teachings and example of Muhammadsa, the prophet of Islam. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim.

There are over 1 billion Muslims worldwide, including numerous sects and subsects. Perhaps the best known branches of Islam are Sunnis, Shias and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
